AHA AND ACC PUBLISH 2013 PREVENTION GUIDELINES

MADISON, Wis. (November 12, 2013)–This afternoon, the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology jointly released four new prevention guidelines. The guidelines are being published concurrently in Circulation and in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. These guidelines focus on: Treatment of Blood Cholesterol to Reduce Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Risk in Adults; Lifestyle Management to Reduce Cardiovascular Risk; Management of Overweight and Obesity in Adults (in collaboration with The Obesity Society); and Assessment of Cardiovascular Risk.

PCNA shares the excitement of the entire cardiovascular health community on the publication of the new prevention guidelines. PCNA is proud to be included as an endorser of these important evidence-based guidelines and we embrace the chance to update both our professional and patient-facing materials to reflect the new recommendations. The co-chairs of the 2014 PCNA Annual Symposium are also finalizing plans for a session that will highlight the recommendations during a keynote session in Atlanta.

Kathy Berra, PCNA president commented, “On behalf of PCNA, we congratulate all of the writing committees on their diligent work, and are especially proud of the work of the many nurses in this enormous effort. We at PCNA look forward to the opportunity to assist in the dissemination of the guidelines in order to bring them to life in the clinical and public health settings.”
